Installing Nvidia G105M Driver on OpenSolaris

I find the latest 190.42 is supported on G105M,so I tried to install that
Of course you can use it as 'vgatext' driver but there are some problems using it.
So I tried to install that

First of all, downloading Nvidia Driver,

http://www.nvidia.com/object/solaris_display_190.42.html

NVIDIA DRIVERS 190.42 Certified - Mozilla Firefox

Confirming Licence Agreement you can download the latest 190.42 driver for Solaris.it is an installer though but you cant install normally because NVDAgraphics cant uninstall on b126.so you should install with "-x" option so type,

$NVIDIA-Solaris-x86-190.42.run -x

to unpack into SVR4 packages.
then you can see them in under the directory 'NVIDIA-Solaris-x86-190.42'.

$ls
NVDAgraphics NVDAgraphicsr gfx_private install

checking the install script, you should install 2 packages with pkgadd.
and install gfx_private with cp as follows,or edit 'install' script to delete the column '# Check if OpenSolaris NVDAgraphics IPS package is already installed'

$pfexec pkgadd -d .

The following packages are available:
1 NVDAgraphics NVIDIA Graphics System Software
(i386) 190.42,REV=2009.10.20.20.53
2 NVDAgraphicsr NVIDIA Graphics System Device Driver
(i386) 190.42,REV=2009.10.20.20.53

Select package(s) you wish to process (or 'all' to process

---

$pfexec cp -fp $DOWNLOAD_DIR/NVIDIA-Solaris-x86-190.42/gfx_private/SunOS-5.11/gfx_private /kernel/misc
$pfexec cp -fp $DOWNLOAD_DIR/NVIDIA-Solaris-x86-190.42/gfx_private/SunOS-5.11/amd64/gfx_private /kernel/misc/amd64/

and if you would use it on your N10J,you should add 'nvidia "pci10de,6f1"' to /etc/driver_aliases

You can see the nvidia driver working on Device Driver Utility or NVIDIA X Server Settings

Device Driver Utility of N10J

Nvidia G105M driver working on N10J

I tried to use Secondlife viewer for checking.it went good, but some problem..And almost shortcut keys don't work.

Secondlife on OpenSolaris on N10J w/ Nvidia G105M

its viewer version is 1.20. I would love to build the latest if you have some informations about building please let me know.

How to do 'triple boot' - OpenSolaris,Ubuntu 9.10,Windows XP

Sorry I cant blog lately I was extremely busy right now,and more my Eee 901 is wrong and I now waiting for its being fixed..

For the time being I have to use my new Eee...uups,similar Eee named 'N10J'.it has Nvidia G105M Graphics, different from any other Eees.(I've heard ION-based netbook Eee now being sold only in China?)It works great and has 2 year world-wide warranties - very good.

P1010093

But its Nvidia works not much better than Intel 945GM (it has switch G105M←→945GM for electric power saving).I realized again intel works great for OpenSolaris :) I hope Nvidia would produce the driver for OpenSolaris.

Btw I sometimes use Secondlife - I love its 'Virtual World'.and love meeting people all over the world there:) I tried it on Windows but it worked very bad on my N10J espeially its sounds.so I tried on Ubuntu it worked very good except it cant shutdown(I had to 'kill -9' the process for it).I haven't tried it on OpenSolaris because I haven't found latest one.I have to build it for OpenSolaris users ;))

So I tried to set 'triple-boot-system' .it has two problems doing that -we can't choose any directories for the 'OpenSolaris' grub and Ubuntu 9.10 has new grub -Grub 2.so I had to use OpenSolaris grub and add the lines for connecting Ubuntu Gru b 2,that is,first I installed OpenSolaris second installed Ubuntu (I installed its grub same directory as Ubuntu) and I added as follows:

masafumi@opensolaris-snv126-n10j:~$ cat /rpool/boot/grub/menu.lst
splashimage /boot/grub/splash.xpm.gz
background 215ECA
timeout 30
default 0
#---------- ADDED BY BOOTADM - DO NOT EDIT ----------
title Solaris Development snv_126 X86
findroot (pool_rpool,2,a)
bootfs rpool/ROOT/opensolaris
splashimage /boot/solaris.xpm
foreground d25f00
background 115d93
kernel$ /platform/i86pc/kernel/$ISADIR/unix -B $ZFS-BOOTFS,console=graphics
module$ /platform/i86pc/$ISADIR/boot_archive
#---------------------END BOOTADM--------------------

# Unknown partition of type 27 found on /dev/rdsk/c5d0p0 partition: 1
# It maps to the GRUB device: (hd0,0) .

title Windows
rootnoverify (hd0,1)
chainloader +1

# Unknown partition of type 15 found on /dev/rdsk/c5d0p0 partition: 4
# It maps to the GRUB device: (hd0,3) .

# Unknown partition of type 131 found on /dev/rdsk/c5d0p0 partition: 5
# It maps to the GRUB device: (hd0,4) .

title Ubuntu 9.10, Linux 2.6.31-14-generic
rootnoverify (hd0,4)
chainloader +1

Note 'chainloader' read the first sector of the partion for Ubuntu.if the OpenSolaris grub find Ubuntu,it can connect the Ubuntu Grub 2.and before I doing it I had to note which partitions I installed Ubuntu (I installed /dev/hda5 so add '(hd0,4)' as 'rootnoverify'.)

My distro updated for b123

Hi,

My distro has updated for build 123 (included zfs compression=on and atime=off )
LiveUSB : http://kohju.justplayer.com/docs/mirror/OpenSolaris/eeepc-special/osol-1002-b123-x86-WC-EeePC.usb
LiveCD : http://kohju.justplayer.com/docs/mirror/OpenSolaris/eeepc-special/osol-1002-b123-x86-WC-EeePC.iso
Checksum : http://kohju.justplayer.com/docs/mirror/OpenSolaris/eeepc-special/md5sum.osol-1002-b123-x86-EeePC-WC.txt
I had checked my Eee 901 and Eee 701 - both work good :)

you know L1E atge driver has been supported on this release, but it doesn't work on L2 NIC :( Murayama-san's driver has been supported both NICs so I had to replace driver for L2 NIC.

by the way I have updated my project on code.google.com so that you could make OpenSolaris for EeePC distro by yourself.
http://code.google.com/p/opensolaris-liveusb-for-eeepc/
if any question, please let me know.

I will be very busy this month...presenting OSC in Tokyo and...much more...
I will have to add some applications for my distro..

My distro updated for b122

My distro has been updated for build 122 (with zfs compression and zfs atime=off for poor SSDs Eee 701 has)

*I have added Murayama-san's atge driver.

I told you eeepc-discuss atge driver will be supported on b123 by Sun (thanks contributing Murayama-san),so almost Eee drivers will be supported.I will have to consider the direction of my distro - I should add some useful applications for netbooks and so on.

If you have some ideas for my distro, please let me know.
I much appreciate if you could tell your ideas for my distro.

For the time being,I will add zfs compression and zfs atime=off for poor SSDs eee 701 has.

My distro updated for Eee PCs

Hi,

My distro for Eee PCs updated (with compression=on and atime=off)
This build is included arn, rwn(fixed bug) and usbser so I've added atge NIC by murayama-san ,usbsacm hot-plug chototsu-san.(I tried to hotplug my Huawei but it doesn't work good on my Eee)

Note it is my trial release so I am not responsible for it your using at all.
